Orang yang buta sejak lahirnya.
Respon orang pada umumnya terhadap orang cacat dari lahir: orang ini terkena tulah dosa.
Jawab Yesus terhadap respon itu adalah tidak benar karena tulah dosa. Tapi karena kemuliaan Tuhan harus dinyatakan. Jawaban ini mematahkan alasan dosa turunan atau karma orang tua yang ditanggung anak.
Orang buta ini, bukan orang buta kebanyakan. Tapi dia cukup terkenal. Orang banyak kenal dia sebagai buta dari lahir dan sebagai pengemis. Mereka kenal orang tuanya. Orang buta inipun pandai berkata-kata saat di sidang oleh orang Yahudi dan Farisi. Kemungkinan orang buta dari lahir ini berasal dari orang terpandang/berada di kampungnya tapi karena buta, orang tuanya dan seluruh masyarakat menurunkan derajatnya menjadi strata sosial terendah yaitu pengemis.
Yesus tidak kebetulan bertemu orang buta ini. Sebagaimana Allah maha tahu, Yesuspun tahu bahwa orang buta ini disiapkan untuk kemuliaan Allah. Jelas, dari semua pilihan untuk dilihat, Alkitab menegaskan pada ayat 1, Yesus melihat orang yang buta sejak lahirnya.
Seandainya Yesus hanya melihat sekilas atau sekedar, tentu tidak perlu percakapan ayat ke 2 dan seterusnya. Tentulah 'melihat' yang Yesus perbuat begitu menyolok dan spesifik sehingga merujuk orang yang buta sejak lahir daripada orang-orang buta cacat lainnya.
Orang buta ini dipakai Yesus untuk mencontohkan bagaimana manusia berdosa itu. Kita semua dilahirkan dalam dosa, kita memulai hidup kita sejak kandungan dalam kegelapan. Kita hadir di dunia tanpa mengenal Allah yang benar dan hidup. Kita lahir dengan neraka sebagai upah dosa sudah di kepala kita. Ini bukan salah orang tua mengandung, bukan juga karena suatu perbuatan kita atau banyak perbuatan dosa kita. Tapi karena status kita sebagai orang berdosa.
Status ini kita emban karena Adam dan Hawa memakan buah yang dilarang Allah. Dosa mendarah daging dalam diri manusia. Manusia awalnya tidak tercemar, terselubung jubah kesucian. Tapi sejak kejatuhan itu (Kejadian 3), lenyaplah jubah itu, digantikan kulit binatang. Inipun menjelaskan, sejak awal, bahwa untuk menutup dosa manusia, perlu pengorbanan darah, untuk baju manusia saja mengorbankan hewan dibunuh untuk diambil kulitnya. Bagaimana untuk menutupi seluruh dosa jiwa dan raga? Perlu pengorbanan seorang manusia juga, tetapi hanya manusia tidak berdosa dan tidak bercacat yang layak menjadi korban tersebut. Itulah Kristus.
Jadi, semua manusia itu buta. Atau berada dalam kegelapan. Itulah mengapa Yesus datang sebagai terang dunia (ayat 5). Melalui perbuatan ajaibNya, Yesus memelekkan mata orang buta sejak lahir itu.
Perbincangan dan perdebatan setelah itu memang muncul karena Yesus menyembuhkan orang buta pada hari Sabat. Memangnya Yesus tidak tahu hari apa itu? Tentu tahu. Tapi jelas Yesus sedang mengangkat ke permukaan pengertian dan pengenalan tentang diriNya.
Orang buta sejak lahir distatuskan orang berdosa oleh masyarakat. Sekarang timbul perdebatan, bagaimana dengan Yesus? Ada pro-kontra. Orang buta ini dan sebagian besar menyadari, tidak mungkin orang berdosa mampu membuat mujizat seperti itu. Tapi orang Farisi menegaskan bahwa karena melanggar aturan agama, Yesus orang berdosa. Menurut anda, bagaimana? Benarkah demikian?
Kebenarannya adalah semua orang berdosa kecuali Yesus. Dan Yesus datang untuk menunjukkan agar kita sadar bahwa kita membutuhkan Yesus untuk menebus dosa kita. Merubah status kita yang buta, dalam kegelapan, atau disebut status berdosa; menjadi baru yaitu menjadi melihat, dalam terang atau status baru menjadi anak-anak Allah (Yohanes 1:12).
Dua sikap muncul: 1. Sikap yang terbuka untuk mengakui, ya saya buta (status dosa) dan saya butuh Kristus Yesus. Atau, 2. Sikap membenarkan diri dan justru menganggap orang lain berdosa karena tidak sesuai standar agamanya.
Jikalau Kristus Yesus satu-satunya manusia yang pernah ada dan tidak berdosa, maka hanya Dialah yang berhak menjadi standar kebenaran. Kehidupannya selama 33 1/2 tahun di dunia merupakan bahan ajar (kurikulum) bagi hidup kita. Kematian pada salib dan kebangkitanNya pada hari ketiga dari kematian tersebut menjadi meterai dan bukti bahwa Dialah manusia yang tidak berdosa, karena sebenarnya Dialah Allah yang menjadi manusia. Karena hanya Allah yang bisa menjadi manusia tidak berdosa dan hanya Allahlah yang bisa menebus/mengampuni dosa.

John 9: 1-41
The man who blind from birth
The response of people in general against disabled from
birth: this person afflicted sin.
Jesus replied to that response is not true because the
plague of sin. But because of the glory of the Lord shall be stated. Answer it

This blind man, is not the blind man as most. But he is quite
famous. Many person know him as a blind from birth and as a beggar. They know his
parents. The blind man was good at speaking while in the trial by the Jews and
Pharisees. Chances are he, the blind man from birth, coming from the respected
/ wealthy in the village but because of his blind, his parents and the entire
community lowered in rank to become the lowest social stratum that is a beggar.
Jesus did not happen to meet this blind man. As God is
omniscient, Jesus also knew that the blind man is prepared for the glory of
God. Clearly, from all the options to be seen, the Bible affirms in paragraph
1, Jesus saw him, the man who blind from birth.
If Jesus was only a glimpse or simply look, certainly do not
need to talk to the second verse and so on. Surely 'see' that Jesus did so
striking and specific to refer this man who blind from birth rather than other blind
people or other disabilities there.
This blind man Jesus used to exemplify how the sinful man. We
are all born in sin, we begin our lives from the womb in the darkness. We are
present in the world without knowing the true and living God. We are born with
hell as the wages of sin has been in our heads. This is not one of the parents
that womb, not because a lot of our actions or our sin. But because of our
status as a sinner.
This status we share because Adam and Eve ate the forbidden
fruit of God. Sin ingrained in human beings. Humans initially uncontaminated,
veiled robe sanctity. But since the Fall (Genesis 3), the robes are gone,
replaced animal skins. This also explains, from the beginning, that to cover
the sins of mankind, need a blood sacrifice, for human clothes even sacrificing
animals killed for their skins. How to cover the entire body and soul sin? Need
to sacrifice a human being too, but only sinless man and blameless who deserve
to be the sacrifice. That is Christ.
So, all men are blind. Or are in the darkness. That is why
Jesus came as the light of the world (verse 5). Through the miraculously act,
Jesus opened that man who is blind since birth.
Conversation and debate afterwards it appeared as Jesus
healed the blind man on the Sabbath. Did Jesus not know what day it is? Sure
know. But obviously Jesus was lifted to the surface of understanding and
recognition of Himself.
The man who is blind from birth made the status of a sinner
by the community. Now arises the debate, what about Jesus? There are pros and
cons. The blind person and largely realized, not the sinner may be able to make
such a miracle. But the Pharisees asserted that for violating the rules of
religion, Jesus was a sinner. In your opinion, how? Is this correct?
The truth is that all sinners except Jesus. And Jesus came
to show so that we are aware that we need Jesus to atone for our sins. Changing
the status of our blind, in the darkness, or the so-called sinful status; being
new is into seeing, in the light, or the new status to become children of God
(John 1:12).
Two attitudes arise: 1. Attitudes are open to admit, yes I
was blind (sin status) and I need Christ Jesus. Or, 2. Attitude to justify
itself and thus assume others to sin because it does not fit their religious
standards.
If Christ Jesus is the only man who ever existed and no sin,
only He has the right to become the standard of truth. His life for 33 1/2
years in the world is the teaching materials (curriculum) for our lives. Death
on the cross and his resurrection on the third day from the death be the seal
of and proof that he is the man who does not sin, because he is actually God
who became man. Because only God could become man without sin and only God can
redeem / forgive sins.
